NZPA Exposure
by James on Aug.18, 2006, under Laptop Theft
Well, the Greystar uploaded the story to their NZPA links, which most radio stations get hold of. This morning it was broadcast on ZM news, and most of the NewstalkZB stations (Classic Hits, Radio Sport etc). I hadn’t heard from the Police since the whole thing started until yesterday, and today we had three of them come in the store. NewstalkZB rang me twice to ask about it, and the main questions they were asking was about what the police had done. We also made front page of the Westport News today (Which appears to have the collective reporting skills similar to my left big toe), you can download that here.
To be perfectly honest, I’m feeling kind of guilty. Don’t get me wrong, this kind of exposure is awesome and I completely and fully hope that we catch this guy out, but we’re a business. What gets me is that on the day that this laptop was stolen, and every day inbetween, several people/families would have had their homes completely ransacked, with no hope of finding who it was that committed the crime, and no chance of getting their things back.
Will keep this updated as events unfold…
World famous in Greymouth?

Sherlock Homes FTW
Wow, is all I can say… I’ve had half a dozen emails from people wanting to buy the footage, 50 odd from people wanting to put banners on this website, several hundred from people saying “I hope you get the guy!” and 1 from someone saying “It’s your own fault it got stolen” – I guess you can’t win them all.
Today I was front page in our local paper, dressed like Sherlock Holmes, magnifying glass and all, posing as if I was checking for evidence. I was under the impression that it was going to be like a mid section article, in black and white, not full colour, on the front page, but hey, the more exposure this thing gets, the more likely we are to catch the guy, so I’ll take one for the team. I also had a phone interview with The Press, one of New Zealand’s most distributed news papers. Bring on the 6:00pm news!
